Help MSF diagnose children at risk from malnutrition.

It may look like a simple bracelet made of plastic but it’s really a lifesaving tool in the fight against malnutrition. Known as a mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measure, a MUAC is a long strip of plastic with a series of bands of colour on it. Wrapped around the middle part of the child’s upper arm, the measure is a quick way to identify children at risk from malnutrition and the severity of their condition. Green means normal, yellow suggests a risk of malnutrition, orange indicates moderate malnutrition and red indicates severe malnutrition. A quick diagnosis of malnutrition means MSF doctors can act equally quickly to treat children at risk and save their lives.

Nine children die every minute from malnutrition. You can help us save lives.

It’s the single greatest global threat to public health, according to the World Health Organization. More than 175 million children around the world last year suffered from malnourishment. It is also the underlying contributing factor in about 45% of all child deaths, making children more vulnerable to severe diseases. In the central African country of Chad, where MSF carries out medical malnutrition interventions, nearly half of child deaths are related to malnourishment. Help supply our medical teams with the tools they need to restore children back to health.
