MUAC Measure
50 bracelets
It may look like a simple plastic bracelet but it’s really a tool to assess malnutrition. Known as a mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measure, a MUAC is a long strip of plastic with a series of coloured bands. When wrapped around the middle part of a child’s upper arm, the measure is a quick way to identify children at risk from malnutrition and the severity of their condition. Green means normal, yellow suggests a risk of malnutrition, orange indicates moderate malnutrition and red indicates severe malnutrition. A fast malnutrition assessment and diagnosis means MSF teams can act quickly to treat children at risk.
