MUAC Measure
50 bracelets
It may look like a simple bracelet made of plastic but it’s really a lifesaving tool in the fight against malnutrition. Known as a mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measure, a MUAC is a long strip of plastic with a series of bands of colour on it. Wrapped around the middle part of the child’s upper arm, the measure is a quick way to identify children at risk from malnutrition and the severity of their condition. Green means normal, yellow suggests a risk of malnutrition, orange indicates moderate malnutrition and red indicates severe malnutrition. A quick diagnosis of malnutrition means MSF doctors can act equally quickly to treat children at risk and save their lives.
